Oldest in the world and largest in the United Kingdom, the University of Cambridge is known world wide for academic excellence of students and world class original research carried out by its staff. Extensive resources of knowledge such as libraries, museums and other collections provide excellent learning opportunities to the student and have enable the university to maintain its high standard. Apart from using conventional teaching process which include lectures, seminars and practical by world experts, the university arranged for personalize teaching and put more stress on it so that student interact with the scholars at all level both formally and informally.
The libraries and museum of the University are the storehouses of many treasures, which give insight into the scholarly activities of both past and present of students and academicians of the University. Out of 31 colleges under the University, three colleges –New hall, Newnham and Lucy Cavendish -are solely for women candidates and other two colleges –Clare Hall and Darwin- admits only graduates. The reminder colleges teach all students enrolled in course of study or research at the University.
Each of the colleges under the University functions independently with its own property and income. The Colleges appoint their own staff and are responsible for selecting students, in accordance with University regulations. The teaching of students is shared between the Colleges and University departments. However, degrees are awarded by the University.The college campus offers for excellent place free exchange all kinds of ideas among the students, scholars and the staffs. This cross-fertilization has led to the creation of a number of new companies. Trinity and St John’s have also established science parks, providing facilities for start-ups, and making a significant contribution to the identification of Cambridge as a centre of innovation and technology. The University of Cambridge is always hustle and bustle with sporting and cultural activities organized by individual clubs and societies run by staff and student and have reputation of creating international standard artists, performer and athletes.
